WHISPERS: Love, Dreams and Imposter Hope

Hope is just an imposter
_______________
I dream of her
She dreams of togetherness
I hope its me
_______
Om Namah Shivaya

Unconditional Love
_______________
I love you
Not because of you
But because of me
Not because of your beauty
But because I am beautiful

I love you
Not because you need my love
but because I need my loving you

I love you
Not because yesterday or day before yesterday
But from ages
From many life times
Your soul and mine
Loved not you or me
But each other's togetherness in the heart

We have
Lived and died
On the banks of eternal river of various lives
On the clouds of moon lights
Among stars and its sunshine
Among the sea and its high tides
In each other's heart.

Shiva in My Dreams

I have seen serpents
Running over your skin
Playing in your hair locks
Bathing from the rivulets of holy river ganges

That run down from your head

And then some one told me

That its me
Now I find them leaving you

and running across my blood
Slithering in and out of my blood vessels
Touching my senses
In cold touch

I have them making me feel

Gripped in coils
While my mind writhes
In shudders
Of coiled tightness
Of my life
Day in and day out

Love

I find you

Probing my senses
with your flickering tongue

Die another Death
________________
Inside you
I die thousand deaths
Every time I don’t find you in my thoughts.
My love,
I spread myself in whole of the sky
Stake me with tall deodar trees
And I die thousand deaths

Inside me, there is a person
Willing to lie
To let you know that I am what I am
But not what I can be
And cry.
And you know my love
That person is not me
But I suspect its you
In my heart who is willing to die

To let me live
A thousand lives
Alone and hurt
Bleeding and blunt
No emotions and no feelings
Just a stone statue,
Where we loved
That we loved
That first day
And that we hugged

Why?
Why it has to be spread so thin
Thick in our love
That it has become so transparent
It hides nothing
It holds nothing
It does not even promise an eternity
But just our hurt feeling
And missed chances to be one

Why my love
You are so far away
To be loved
Even when you are just sleeping next to me
Why….?

Om Namah Shivaya

Today is the birthday of Yevgeny Yevtushenko (July 18,1931- ), who was Russia's most popular poet in 1960's, often attracting thousands to his readings and has written more than forty books of poetry. His poetry was some of the first to overtly criticize Stalin. He has been politically active through his life, even serving in the first freely elected parliament of the USSR from 1988 to 1991. I was touched by this poetry from him so thought of reproducing it here.

You are great in love
____________________
You are great in love
                                        You are bold
My every step is timid.
I will do nothing bad to you,
but can hardly do you any good.
It seems you are
                                     leading me
Off the beaten path through a forest
Now we're up to our waist in wildflowers
I don't even know
                                                       what flowers they are
Past experience is of no help here.
I dont know
                                                  what to do or how.
You are tired.
You ask to be carried in my arms
Already you are in my arms.
"Do you see
                                                how blue the sky is?
Do you hear
                                                     what birds in the forest?
Well, what are you waiting for?
                                                     well?
                                                                                     Carry me then!"
And where shall I carry you?...

  1. Ok....finally I had some time to read for myself....something other than job or school related!
I am not sure if i commented on this or if not but I think it was only about Vasudha's coming of age.
now for the rest of postings.
    Lets see....
the wander lust posting on Buddha's final resting place. Somehow, while reading it, I became calm in the process. Must be the effect of the Buddha. As always, the pictures are beautiful and enhance the blog. I understand what you meant about walking in the same place as Buddha once would have so long ago. It's the enchantment of very old places.
As for the poetry, this time, i found they were captivating. I liked the lines. They were so bold...especially in "unconditional love." keep the posts coming. I am sorry it took this long to read it all.
P.S...I also like the still life photos....that too is also fascinating

  11. Shashi, your poetry is beautiful, beautiful. Loved the Unconditional Love for going where many don't even think to look:

    I love you
Not because you need my love
but because I need my loving you

The Shiva in My Dreams, very visual - the exploration picking at "me"-ness and "you"-ness and where does one begin and the other end.

And I agree, Hope just is an imposter.

    Thank you.

  14. Dear Dustus
Thanks for your appreciative and encouraging words... and as usual, with your unusually canny and keen sense of poetry, you have picked one of the important thought from the poetry.. i.e the unconditional love is not about this life alone, its mostly a continuation from other lives ... playing and enjoying various hues and colors of th this all encompassing love...

Well, at least this is what I believe in ... ;-)

I have enjoyed reading you a lot these last few weeks.. thanks for sharing too.

  18. Dear Gospel Writer...

thanks for liking most of my verses and I am happy that you picked out "Shiva" too. Its one of my thoughts about cleansing one's own soul / personality and within the being...

You know Love is a process that is not looking for the end but the process itself is the beginning, middle and the end... so I personally believe true love does not exists in reciprocation but in the lovers own heart and to live, some needs that love filled heart.. like me... hence the words.. thanks for liking those verses...

Yes Hope is just an imposter, giving hope....;-)

  25. Extremely beautiful poems of love. I especially love Unconditional Love. These read so flowingly, a great river of beauty that must have bathed the recipient in bliss. Beautifully done.

  26. These are beautiful poems, Shashi. This particular verse speaks to me:
    We have
    Lived and died
On the banks of eternal river of various lives
On the clouds of moon lights
    Among stars and its sunshine
Among the sea and its high tides
    In each other's heart.

I love how it all circles back to oneness.

    MAny thanks for sharing.

  29. All very poignant thought provoking and really deserve to linger and ponder each line each verse for there is much written that is profound.

My favorite is "Die another Death" without taking up too much space here, this is what life is -- every moment we die another death, and in our 'love making' the most imitate of connections with another we die another death there as well the French say La petite mort, for "the little death", a metaphor for orgasm.
The soul through earthly experiences like the trees in autumn the leaves falling to the ground and renewal in the spring we too come back again and again.

Maybe this is not what you meant, and it is hard to say, but my limited take on this wonderful read, really should be a better exploration of thoughts.
    Cheers,
    Joanny

  30. This was a wonderful read...the "Unconditional Love" piece spoke to me most...all were very good.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Dear Joanny

thanks for your wonderful comment and enjoying it. You just made my day. Thanks.

Your words about "Die Another Death" is so true and yes that is what life is. We die every moment for that moment. We diminish our material living every moment that we live. As you said about the most intimate moments of love making, its believed in Tantric practices that we are reborn once again.. so what you say is true too as well as in some form of Hindu ritual practices too. Soul as its said in our old scriptures like Veda/Purana's takes a life form to experience bliss, happiness and attain nirvana, freedom from life and birth and every day here is like a practice of living out of life and death... so that we can be released from that cycle.

Every one has his interpretation of a poetry and I am glad that you found yours so beautifully in my words.... I would not like to say what I mean by those words as when words are written its for the reader to give meaning than the writer to explain... Every one sees through his / her eyes the meaning that is attuned to their own self... just like every one prays attuned to their own personal Supreme consciousness....

Thanks for your wonderful comment and I am happy to have you here.. look forward to your thoughts more....

    Om Namah Shivaya

  36. Hello Shashi. I focused on Die Another Death... the lines that really got to me were "To let you know that I am what I am / But not what I can be" Makes me think when one cannot feel that possible, and love seems a stranger even when so close, it does feel like dying again and again. thank you for sharing your thoughtful work.
