WHISPERS: Songs of hearts, desires and queen of battles

 Curtsey Andy Ilachinski
One Stop Poetry
The following verse I have submitted for Picture Prompt Challenge at One Stop Poetry

SOME JUST DON'T DREAM
__________________________

The waves reached out
Tapped my shoulder
And asked
Are you with her?
I said
"Yes"

The sea, then, moved closer
The setting sun, stopped setting
The breeze stood still
The seagulls froze
Still, pinned up in the sky
As the waves said,

"Can you please ask her
To come out of your dreams
And see us,
As we are missing her too.
You know, unlike you
We don't dream"

O Queen of Battles

Sun, set down, finally on the Kingdom
It lay shattered amidst the bloodbath of the ground
And the mighty warriors, with their broken pride,
Dying under the blood soaked, sight and sound
Head, though, still attached and still held high
Many a questions flickering in their fading lifeless eyes

O King!
Why now you are kneeling, on the lost earth
Made of dust, not strutting on your throne
Swaying with pride and charming queen
On your side
Why now you are waiting for the final blow
Why now, finally, you are kneeling, on the lost earth?

Do you have no more warriors to feed,  to your frenzy
Of power, lust and to unconquered life less mass of dust?
No more Elder’s, Brother’s and Son’s,
You have hidden
In your treasured blood red Chest

No more duty bound warrior souls
To fuel the spine chilling flames of your hunger
Don’t you feel the freezing coldness streaks of hatred,
Streaking from the funeral pyres
Of our wives, daughters and mothers
Already carved unto our dying hearts
And to yours, more so of deadly desires.

O Queen!
Why did you loose your self
In the arms of a man’s desire, to own
And then disown
In one full sweep of your wandering heart.
Why did you plan the fall of the mighty kingdom
In the Trojan of your lust.

Where did you hide your golden covetous charm,
When the ugly face of your hunger, lie unmasked?
Did you burry it with your offspring of passions,
Innocent children of your lust
Who now lie dead besides us?
Or
You are still saving it for the victor
When he strides across our dead faces,
Trampling on our pride and removing all our traces
In the oblivion of history’s dust.
And
Then
To welcome him into your arms
With your another set of honeyed charms
To ride out into the horizon of another sun dawn
Of another blood lust
Along with another victor's fresh blood

O Queen of Battles
When will you conquer your bloody thirst?

  7. Hi Shashi...three very interesting poems. The first one; I love how you filled so few words with passion and love. O Queen of Battle; the way you wrote this is the way I see war and battle too, excellent. The one I enjoyed the most, Some Just Don't Dream...emotionally moving, I really liked this piece. :)

  8. This is so amazing Shashi, each poem in their own way.

Your second poem left me with a surprise at the end, and I really loved it. Great work!

I must say, the last was my favorite though. So eloquently written, so profound, and such thought provoking imagery. Brilliant work, will look forward to seeing more from you.

  13. @Eaton: The battle scene I started with the scene of Dharma Yuddha of Mahabharata from GITA, one of our very powerful scriptures and story where Lord Krishna gave the ways and means to live beautifully and peacefully in life...
( you can read about this from my book review on my link at this blog - hope you like it... too: http://shadowdancingwithmind.blogspot.com/2010/05/book-from-mind-to-super-mind-commentary.html )and then in the middle moved on to Cleopatra as the story demanded... so its an interesting progression... I liked the way it developed...

The Just dont dream is so very personal and emotionally involving to me...

    Thanks for liking this...

@Suzicate: The sea has a special place within me and talks to me many times...I remember one of my friends saying that she is so oriented towards the sea that she can find out in any place towards where the sea lies... I believe in the energy of the water bodies and the sea is the most profound source of positive energy..

@Liv2Write2Day: Well I am happy that you noticed that as it really is.. as you live to write I write to pray, bring out the negatives in me out and cleanse myself... thanks for liking ...

  23. I enjoyed all three of your poems very much, Shashi. To different responses over the years, I've stood on the shore and had those waves ask me the same questions. "Whispers..." struck a chord with me. Excellent sense of animating feelings through nature.
    Cheers,

  26. I enjoyed both poems, but the imagery in Queen of Battles was so vivid and strong, I know I'll remember it. I read the Baghavad Gita many years ago, and felt it in this poem. I've thought many times about this line: "Offer to me all thy works and rest thy mind upon the Supreme.Be free from vain hopes and selfish thoughts and with inner peace fight thou thy fight"

  30. Dear Hedgewitch
Thanks for your beautiful comment. I wrote the "Queen of Battles" Monday Potluck at Jingle's blog with a particular prompt, hence the imagery was prominent there, rather than the thought I guess.. As you got it right too, it was based on my image of Mahabharata - The battle of Dharma at Kurukshetra between pandava's and kaurava's and Lord Krishna gave there one of the most profound lecture of Bhagawat Gita.

Your knowledge about Gita is great and I am thrilled about it. I did post a commentary on Bhagawat Gita some time back by one of the good writers. He has put the thoughts of Gita in perspective with mind. I am sure you would like it too, have a look when you have time. Here is the link...

    http://shadowdancingwithmind.blogspot.com/2010/05/book-from-mind-to-super-mind-commentary.html

Your quote from Gita is very close to my heart. I did talk about being a Karma Yogi, in the spot light feature that Adam did it in One Spot Poetry last Friday...

  33. Shashi i emjoyed your excerpts and commentary on Rohit Mehta's book. I'll look out for it. I especially liked this thought:
"Its easy to discard the objects of sense delight. Its also possible to make oneself utterly insensitive to sense-impacts. But man’s psychological problem resides neither in the objects nor in the senses – it abides in the mind. … While sense objects may be cast away – the mind that dwells on them remains."
So very true, and words to think about.
I also enjoyed your interview at OneStop. I have friends who are into Zen Buddhism, and I'm always trying to understand the concept of karma--seems like there are so many definitions, all relating to scriptures and cultures that are distant from us in space and time. Your words had much more immediacy for me. Thank you for posting the links, and for your own insights and the work you do here.
