3) ABOUT BOOKS

Writing a book is an exhaustive and lonely struggle, which becomes painful in itself if you are not passionate about words and enjoy the stories it brings forth from the depths of your heart. As I finish writing book-2 in “The Monk Key” series, I have realised that my perspectives about writing, life and living has completely changed. These upcoming three posts “About Book” is my attempt to share those learning with my friends, readers and aspiring authors in order to save their valuable time in reinventing the wheel. Click here to read more...

The beauty of the languidly moving vehicles - zigzagging through numerous city jams, but also zipping across the under ground the first metro rail and an IT hub that’s humming to take over the world, from the outskirts of the city. That’s Kolkata for you in nut shell but for me it’s more than all that. And visiting the city on 30th and 31st January, 2016 for the International Kolkata Book Fair on the invitation of my first book "Songs of the Mist" publishers Notion Press, is an amazing opportunity to recharge my soul... Click here to read more...

STILL LIFE: Another Day in Deva Bhoomi - Rishikesh

After many years of thinking, finally my cousins Ritesh and Ravi decided to join me on my latest trip to Rishikesh. Recently one of my friends asked me, which temple I visit to meditate and practice sadhana and I said, "You don't need a temple, just sit down any where on the banks of Holy River Ganges, you will find peace". And I believe it so... as many of the Rishi, Saints and Sadhu's have been doing Tapasya in and around this place for thousands of years and the Ganges has been the source of their energy...

This time, I was invited by Swami Omkarananda Ji to spend some time with him on this trip as well as work on the Yoga Center and it was a pleasure to be with him. The place where we stayed, curtsy Swami Ji, is the ashram where South Indian Star Rajnikanth stays regularly. It was interesting to hear from Swami Ji some of the stories about the simplicity of the Star, who could actually go out to have Ground nuts from the road side stall, without getting mobbed...
The following images from the journey to one of the most holiest places ... Hope you will enjoy them.
Although the journey started in Delhi, this is on the way to Rishikesh
from Dehradoon...

This time, there were two camera crazy guy, happily capturing the journey
while...

... Shilu kept on waiting on the side lines of our shooting spree..

As we reached ashram, the beautiful sky line welcomed, in its full
glory. The holy river Ganges was very inviting as it softly flowed by...

Soon, we were joined by our host, Swami Omkarananda... before we were
to leave for one of the most powerful temple of 'Neelkanth Mahadev"

Though the sun was not too hot, but some were looking for
opportunity to pose....

And the journey to Neelkanth Mahadev was on...

Neel Kanth Mahadev Temple, 30 KMs by road from Rishikesh, is
beautiful but then the trek of 16 KMs is far more exciting..

One of my favorite places 'Little Buddha Cafe - German Bakery',
The view of the river is beautiful from the place.. as we waited for...

Swami ji along with Satya and his wife to join us for dinner...
Those few hours together was very interesting as we discussed Yoga..

Sun rise is always beautiful in Rishikesh. After hours of meditation
along the banks of Holy Ganges, this view is powerful source of energy...

The ashram also hosts Super Star Rajnikanth, who visits regularly and stays
in this room. Interesting to hear about him from Swami Omkaranada.

As Superstar Rajnikanth loves to do, many of the devotees spend time,
deep in meditation... One of the devotees caged in her own thoughts...

One of my favorite places in Rishikesh, Muni Ke Reti - The Beach along
the river, soft sand white and serene invites you to sit down and think...

While some of the kids monkey around in the sand... they wanted me
to capture their backward flip...

And some monkey, fooling around with Coca Cola.. yes finally he /she
opened it ...

And some (more?) ... having fun in the river Ganges at Triveni Ghat

And some are watching the life pass by...

Some are devoting themselves to a life of devotion....

Another day started with spiritual bath and the ritual breakfast of
Puri, Sabji and Jalebi...

And the time to take our leave of Rishikesh and holy river Ganges..
It was interesting, at many levels, to be with my cousins on this trip.

Swami Omkarananda and his friend, joined us to see us off. It was good
learning as I spend some time with him... Looking forward to next time

And the sun sets on another journey to Deva Bhoomi Rishikesh...
Hope you have liked the walk with me on this journey of self exploration ...

Through the lens of Kaanvaria - Rishikesh

STILL LIFE: Through The Lens of Kanvaria - Dehradun To Rishikesh

Lakhs of devotees every year, make an annual pilgrimage in the month of Shravan (July-August) to Haridwar, Rishikesh, Badrinath, Kedarnath in Himalaya to fetch Holy river Ganges water and bath their local Deity Lord Shiva in villages,  towns or city temples across India. These pilgrims are known as Kanvarias.

HISTORY
Kanwar yatra is related to churning of ocean of the milk in Hindu Puranas. When poison came out before Amrita and world started burning from its heat then lord Shiva accepted to inhale poison. But, after inhaling it he started suffering from negative energy of poison. In Treta Yuga Lord Shiva's devout follower Ravana did meditation. He brought holy water of Ganga by using kanwar and pour it on lord Shiva temple in Puramahadev. It released Lord Shiva from the negative energy of poison. (Curtsy Wikipedia, click here to read more...)

A large sculpture of Shiva, as river Ganges comes down from heaven...
TRIVENI GHAT - RISHIKESH

This trend of walking on foot to fetch holy water was started by saints and older devotees few decades back but gained popularity in 1990's when young men from the villages, towns and cities started participating in the pilgrimage as an annual ritual. Around 8 million people were expected to be reaching Haridwar and Rishikesh this year (Hindustan Times Report) and I thought of being one of them again. As I was travelling to Delhi, I planned my trip to start from Dehradun to bring Holy water from Rishikesh, back to my home.

Jolly Grant Airport

From Dehradun Airport, Rishikesh is around 35 Kms. I chose Rishikesh instead of Haridwar which is normal choice of pilgrims, since I find it more peaceful and have been visiting almost every year. The way from Dehradun to Rishikesh is also very beautiful and because of monsoon rains, the path is through 'fresh' lush green Deodar forests...

So here is my journey through some still images... Hope you will enjoy it.

The way...

Triveni Ghat at Rishikesh

Finally reached...

The Ganges in full flow....

Some of the devotees offering Ganga Jal to Sun God....
After the bath and meditation, a time to pose with a wandering Bhikshu...

And the Sun set on the way back... It was important to cross this forest
before night fall as wild elephant take over the route during the night.

Hope you have liked the journey, through the images and if interested to join me in one of my journey to Rishikesh, please leave a comment below..

STILL LIFE: In Shadows of Bomb Blast, remembering serenity of Bodh Gaya

Buddha said, “Suffering is not the true nature of the universe. Suffering is the result of the way we live and of our erroneous understanding of life. (Quoted in a lovely book by Thich Nhat Hanh “Old Path White Cloud” click here to read more...) and that’s what exactly the source of discontent among terrorists and their leaders, across the world, as they go about spreading fear in peace loving hearts as well as pushing gullible people into acts of terrorism.

The Temple and Buddha in the inner sanctum remains secure...

Woke up to the sounds of Bomb blast’s this Sunday morning
(To read more about the Bodh Gaya Blast, click here...) and looked up images from my last visit to Bodh Gaya. The images took on the shadows of darkness as the Peaceful serene atmosphere of Buddha’s place of enlightenment lay shattered…

While the Buddha's foot prints, under the bodhi tree suffered little damage,
as reported in  some papers (Img curtsy LiveMint)

Went to that lonely
Temple again, Buddha smiled
Was looking for pain

Come walk with me to the most holy place of Buddhism and pray for peace across the world…

Withered peace...

The shadows of anxiety...

A dark Sun sets ...

As terror dawns in Bodh Gaya...

And engulfs the peaceful shrine in darkness...
