I have recently been to the Varanasi , also known as Kasi in northern state of India . It is regarded as a holy city by Buddhists and Jains, and is the holiest place in the world in Hinduism (and center of the Earth in Hindu cosmology). It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. According to legend, the city was founded by the Hindu deity, Lord Shiva, around 5,000 years ago, thus making it one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in the country. Its also believed by Hindu's that once in a life time, a visit to this place is must to cleanse one's own as well as ancestors bad karmas.
May you have the same feeling of positive energy that this city gives to every one who goes there.... Below are my impressions from the city, hope you will enjoy this visual trip as well as I enjoyed being there....

Home of Shiva - Kashi |
Also known as Varanasi - Situated on the banks of Holy River Ganges |
Attracts visitors from all over the world... |
Some even from Siberian lands... |
But the common life goes on.... |
On and on... |
Some come here to wash their sins in Holy river Ganges... |
Some shower blessings.... |
Some sharing tips of nirvana... to gullible tourists |
Some have their own view.... |
Some to take some family photographs... |
Each one, to one's own pleasures... Massage on the Ghat |
Some are just lost in their thoughts.... |
Some catch up in the market place... |
And some are caught up in traffic jam... |
Some one like me, stuck floating in the river of life... in living. |
Shashi--What strikes me the most beautiful in all these photos is the incredible color that I see everywhere...at weddings, at the river, the painted walls, the market place. Just beautiful. And you...you look so rested, calm and relaxed floating on that "river of life" with colors all around you, behind you, with you.
ReplyDeletewhat beauty our world holds, and you've captured it beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Teri and David

beautifully captured images!!
ReplyDeleteThe 3rd and 6th photograph fascinate me. Such a different look from where I live! I found your traveling to Varanasi interesting as travel is so different here as well. It is good for people to go on spiritual journeys, to take time to reflect and ponder God - in whatever form that takes. If only our crazy world was safer, people respected and tolerated different beliefs. How I would love to travel overseas and know I would be safe. Thank you for your very kind comments on my blog.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Pictures ! thanks for sharing them..recently I read one novel where the back drop was Varanasi and now saw pictures here, and all this makes me sure to visit the holy city.
