Cherry blossoms
Not because it has to
Because, it loves to
__

Silence hangs heavy
Winter pregnant with chilly winds
Forest prepares for a long night
__

Silence
Like the snow
Falls appropriately within my heart
__

EMPTINESS WITHIN…
_________

The night was slowly floating away
With the river outside
My thoughts continued down stream too
From past to the present
Into the future
Through my mental agony
Of not being with this ‘now’
Of not being with you

The darkness
Of not having enough courage
To love you
Again
Or hold your burning thoughts
In the chaos of my heart
Continued to haunt me
Through out the night
Through out the past
As slowly
River floated away
Into the oblivion of time
My memories
Crossed the present,
And now lies in ambush
Of future
As I slowly drift away
From you

The sterile time
Slowly carved you out
Out of my soul
Through a clean cesarian cut of ‘now’
A strange antiseptic emptiness
Fills my soul
In the spaces that you grew
From drops of love
Into a completeness
It tastes strange,
Feels strange
And holds me from inside
In strange sterile isolation
Of just being empty
Empty of you

Sounds of river fades
As night drifts apart too
Leaving the sunrise
To fill me with darkness of new dawn
Empty of you

So much suggested in such few words. As for "Emptiness Within" I'm finding connecting themes of night and birth in your poetry this week, as well as isolation and desolation. As always, expressed through beautiful poetry. Cheers, Shashi

  3. The cherry blossom haiku is truly perfect and 'Emptiness' is wonderfully haunting.

  4. your haiku is truly wonderful Shashi
I was especially drawn to the Emptiness Within

it is in emptiness of 'you' that we begin a path to fulfillment.

it is a 'comforting' strange sterile isolation, indeed

    beautifully done
    thank you

  5. Dear Sashi,
"Emptiness Within" is a great poem, well crafted, lucid and palpable to the compassionate reader.

"The pain of emptiness, like the sterility of Winter, becomes the soil that holds the promise of spring blossoms"

  6. Emptiness Within in its entirety is a literary oxymoron. The surface serenity of the words creating a calm pool under which chaos and longing erupt but not quite to the surface. The tension is buried - the effect a brilliant paradox. This is a strange and amazing work of art. Thank you. Gay @beachanny

  11. Very nice,Shashi. I always enjoy your haikus. I especially like the first, just "because it loves to." Charming.

The poem is filled with such loss and longing. (sigh)

Thank you for leaving a comment on my entry. I appreciate it.

  12. All beautiful, stunning images... the last:

    Sounds of river fades
    As night drifts apart too
    Leaving the sunrise
To fill me with darkness of new dawn
    Empty of you

Fills one with serene thoughts of the stream, flowing gently, only to succomb to the darkness... Wow.

  13. A splendid visual and sensory delight as ever, Shashi, and your haiku, as always, left me with tingles and inspirations. The first two in particular gave me great satisfaction:

    "Cherry blossoms
    Not because it has to
    Because, it loves to"

It's a deep one. Its message, its image, is not all there right off. You have a cherry blossom, but there is so much more there, and it is beautiful as you plum its depths within yourself. And:

    "Silence hangs heavy
    Winter pregnant with chilly winds
Forest prepares for a long night"

Simply a stunning winter visual. I've felt it, and that probably why it rings so heavily with me. Standing in the woods at night, snow crunching, air heavy with prospective snow, wind blowing; close your eyes and draw it all in...I could taste it.

    Splendid, all! Quite serene.

  14. I see what I've been missing. The haikus are beautiful and deep, the poem haunting. The cherry haiku show love and promise to the full. The poem, love is present and empty of the one you want. Well written.

  15. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. "Cherry blossoms . . . " made my hear ache with longing for the cherry blossoms of Japan. Thank you so much for sharing, and for visiting my blog earlier.

  26. Can't believe I missed you for One Stop, Shashi. But I'm glad you posted this again for Jingle. The introductory haiku is stunning, especially the cherry blossom one. The River is getting to be quite a presence in your work; when I read it there I start to think of your other uses of it so the poem is that much richer. The last stanza is full of loss, but the River flows on.

  27. Wow..wow..and again WOW!!!
Your wordplay here is totally breathtakingly stunning, Shashi! I still cannot believe that I did not read this from One Stop! :( And my apologies for that!

This poem is all about yearning, and the desire to reunite with our beloved... (Sigh)
A sad tale... but your words made it so hauntingly beautiful!!

    You rock, S!!
And you really inspire me with your amazing poetry!!! Thanks for everything, Shashi....

  41. I admire your skill with haikus. I love the story of cherry blossoms and in the mind's eye, the picture of them blowing in the wind has always brought me peace. "Emptiness Within" has a soul-deep sadness to it, but only when seen from a point of attachment. When one looks at it from the view of attaining true, inner peace, one can see that being "empty of you" could be a good thing, if the attachment has formerly brought pain. The thought also occurred to me that perhaps the "you" of whom you speak is the Divine, and in that case, separation would be painful. That river always flows...and I know how hard it can be to tame an unquiet mind. Thanks for the visit to my blog and thanks for the link to yours. :)

  43. Your poems are so beautiful! I adore the one about cherry blossoms. This is how haiku should be done! "The night was slowly floating away with the river outside..."
